Halloween Black Mermaid® “Mer Mummy” Design Released

Black Mermaid Productions™ (BMP) has just released its annual Halloween design in the Black Mermaid® range of artwork. This year’s image consists of a mer mummy and fits comfortably in the horror oriented collection, which also features a mer zombie, mer ghost, mer witch and mer vampire.

Designed by Jozef Szekeres, this piece is also a departure from the more animated stylisation of previous designs.

The BMP Black Mermaid® silhouetted logo, which is beloved by many fans and who indeed has a Facebook page of her own, is the star of this design and the rest.

The design features on a range of t-shirts, greeting cards, framed prints, homeware and other collectibles that can be found at the BMP online shop—Black Mermaid® Boutique.

Valentine Black Mermaid Advocates "Languid Love"

Happy 2013, readers! We're getting ready for a big year, and Jozef starts things rolling with his latest interpretation of our Valentine Black Mermaid – "Languid Love". We've just changed our product line up as well. Aprons are out and pyjamas, rugs and yoga mats are in, plus lots of other goodies. Check out our wares at Black Mermaid Boutique.

BMP Lauches New Bridal Black Mermaid™ Range

Jozef is madly designing a wedding dress for a friend of his (it's all top secret until the wedding day!) and Julie attended two weddings last month so we thought a new Bridal Black Mermaid™ range of designs would be apt. We'll bring out one a year, and the "Pink Bouquet" starts the procession off.

Quest for Black Mermaids

You know our "Black Mermaid™" brand is very specific, and tied to the artistic expression of the wonderful Black Mermaid Productions logo of a reclining black mermaid in silhouette that Jozef designed many years ago. In fact, you can find her in a multitude of design variations at the Black Mermaid Boutique. However, we have been on a quest to find cultural diversity in the mermaid community, especially to find African inspired mermaids. Our approach has been chronicled in previous posts such as "Support The Deluge and Other Black Mermaids" and "A Letter to Black Mermaid Productions about African Mermaids". Well we've just discovered a fabulous caché of black mermaid artwork on Pinterest put up by Vegatron, AKA – Teresa Vega. Amongst the pieces are street art, book covers, Haitian art, poster art, quilt art, Cuban art and much more. The artists are attributed on the original pins. New Birthday Black Mermaid™ Range Launched

We've answered your call and have just launched the first EVER design in our new Birthday Black Mermaid™ range of clothing and collectibles. Like the other celebration lines, we'll be launching one design in this series a year. We know we're releasing it close after the new Valentine "Ace of Hearts" design, however, we didn't want anybody with a birthday in January to miss out! We've got the same product line as the other ranges but we suspect it will be the greeting cards – which can double up as birthday cards – that will be the most popular. Jozef did an alternate take on the customary birthday cake and presents (that may come next year!) and decided to bring you a big fat orange balloon instead. The design is called "Balloon Day" and she can be found at the Black Mermaid™ Boutique.

Valentine Black Mermaid™ (Ace of Hearts) Launched

You may have noticed our new Valentine Black Mermaid™ design in the right hand column of this blog, as well as on our Black Mermaid FaceBook page profile pic for the last few days. She's not the Queen of Hearts as one would expect but the "Ace of Hearts" – top of the playing card totem pole, top of the hierarchy – and she beats the Queen hands down in the love stakes. On another note, for the collectors out there who regularly buy product from the shop, we're letting you know that we will be deleting the apron range in the next week and adding a new suede cushion, which will feature alongside the twill and canvas throw pillow. We recently bought the new suede cushion with some other branding on it and absolutely LOVED it. Feels great and looks great!

Vampire Black Mermaid™ Rises From a Watery Grave

Jozef has surpassed himself again with his inventiveness. There was no brief or discussion for this year's Halloween Black Mermaid™ design – we knew he'd nail it and he did. Here's his answer ... Twilight and Dracula meet Black Mermaid! This little one is called "Fanged Beauty" and she's now available at the Black Mermaid Boutique in a range of t-shirts, prints, greeting cards, postcards, and other collectibles. Oh ... and she is now on the profile pic of our new Black Mermaid™ – Official Site FaceBook page in case you want to join up.

Viva Black Mermaid™ in Las Vegas!

Fresh from Jozef's computer ... our new Black Mermaid™ hits Las Vegas next month in our new Great Cities of the World range. She'll be up on the Black Mermaid Boutique in the next couple of days if you want to order your tee or your postcards or prints early. And don't forget the cushions .... Black Mermaid™ Tattoos 1

Jamile from Brazil sent us this pic the other day accompanied with a message to say that since she was a little girl, she's always dreamed of being a mermaid and that she is still fascinated with these creatures. She decided to get a Black Mermaid™ one with our permission, and has sourced the image from our current website (we're in the processing of building a new one) on the Character Gallery page.

Do you design mermaid tattoos for people?

Time constraints do not allow Jozef to design any specific tattoos for interested people. Tattoo design is also not part of our core business. However, we do get occasional requests from readers, seeking permission to use some of the published BMP characters as tattoos. In principle, we do give permission in those circumstances, provided that the person contacts us by email. If you have such a request, you can email us on: permissions@blackmermaid.com. However, the tattooist must give original art and copyright credit to the artist – Jozef Szekeres and/or Black Mermaid Productions™ – on any digital (online/electronic) or print promotional publication where a photo of the finished tattoo appears. We do not licence any of our Black Mermaid™, Elf~Fin™ or any other artwork and images generated by Black Mermaid Productions™ to any tattoo artists or companies.

Please note that we've changed our position slightly on the use of our Black Mermaid™ images and provided that you obtain our permission on a case by case basis, in general we do give permission to our individual readers and fans of the artwork.

Valentine Black Mermaid™ (Contemplating Cupid) Released

You may have noticed our new Valentine Black Mermaid™ design in the blog side panel for the last few days. She's called "Contemplating Cupid" and as usual Jozef has done a wonderful job in her creation. So for all you romantics at heart, check out the Black Mermaid™ Boutique. We've got lots of NEW products on offer: iPad and iPhone cases for the technologically minded, stadium blankets to snuggle under at picnics or sporting events or even to keep in the back of the car, and lots of new food and drinkware. Ghostly Black Mermaid™ Out Now!

Yes, that's right – our Black Mermaid™ turns white mermaid, albeit temporarily in our new 2010 Halloween "Starlight Ghost" design.
