Time Magazine Person of the Year – Harvey Pekar Obituary

The recent "Person of the Year" Time magazine issue (27 December 2010) counted Harvey Pekar, who died on 12 July 2010 aged 70, amongst its "Fond Farewells" List.
From the 1970s, Harvey Pekar was one of the giants of the comic-book medium. His revealing autobiographical stories, in the pages of his American Splendor series and in books like Our Cancer Year (a collaboration with his wife Joyce Brabner and artist Frank Stack), had a profound influence on a generation of American cartoonists.
The brilliant Paul Giamatti played him in the 2003 film – American Spendor. Here's the original July Time obituary by Joe Sacco. Can't remember the last time a comics creator was given such respect in a major magazine.

Here are two David Letterman interviews with Harvey Pekar that will give you a giggle.
