Art and Story; Music and Lyrics

When we first got into comics an old comics pro once told us that "people buy comics for the art but stay for the story". Well I just watched the romantic comedy Music and Lyrics (starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore, and written and directed by Marc Lawrence) that had a similar observation albeit to songs. Drew's character Sophie explains:

"A melody is like seeing someone for the first time – the physical attraction – sex ... but then as you get to know the person, that's the lyrics, their story, who they are underneath. It's the combination of the two that makes it magic."

I like this analogy and I think it's also quite appropriate for comics. It's the fusion of both images and words that creates the magic. Any thoughts?
